Ministry at the Farm:

Why did you decide to serve the mission at Farm of the Child?

In January 2015, I decided to apply to serve the Farm of the Child, after reading about the ministry on this website. I was extremely touched by the beautiful children and the presence of God in them, and in those living in poverty. I believe that I receive much more than I can give as that was my experience in Guaymas, Mexico, when I volunteered with the Franciscan Friars. I was impressed by the 4 pillars and by the Farm of the Child’s mission statement. I have simplified my life since 2009, and have found that there really is freedom in having less than more. I am sure I will have so much fun with the children.

What do you hope to experience through your ministry at Farm of the Child?

Through the ministry of Farm of the Child, I hope to gain a better understanding of Honduran culture and history, and by seeing the children growing spiritually, physically, and emotionally. I know it will be a great witness of God’s love in the midst of poverty, violence, and corruption.

What are you most excited about/nervous for as you prepare to arrive?

I am really excited about living at the Farm, meeting new missionaries, and hearing their stories. We will be family to each other for over a year. I am so happy to be learning about individuals lives and hardships, hopefully I will be able to assist them in their healing journey. I feel very privileged to be involved in this adventure. My biggest concern is learning Spanish. Although I spent 9 months in Mexico in 2013, I really did not express myself very well. As I have been volunteering since 2006, I have learned a lot regarding living in community, having healthy boundaries, and relationships. It is really great meeting different people from different States and becoming family to each other.
