Why did you decide to serve the mission at Farm of the Child?
After much discernment I felt called to long-term service but I especially chose the Farm because of its mission. I was looking for powerful service but also a means to live out my faith in all the aspects of my life. I was attracted my the community that exists among the volunteers but also the community being built among the staff of the Farm and the residents of Trujillo. I believe in the work and the mission and I am glad to be a part of it.

What do you hope to experience through your ministry at Farm of the Child?
I hope to be fully wrecked by the Farm and never really be the same for it. I want to be able to give completely of myself through love. I wish to see the face of Christ in those I serve and serve with, those I learn with and learn from. I plan on finding difficult, seemingly unending work and being humbled by it. Mostly I plan on finding love at the Farm and try to respond to that as best as I can, hopefully letting that love move through me as well.

What are you most excited about/nervous for as you prepare to arrive at the Farm?
I am so very excited to meet everyone that is already there—the kids, staff, other volunteers and the community members of Trujillo. I am nervous for all the normal reason—language and cultural differences and my own shortcomings. I pray I will be able to contribute to and live out the Farm’s mission. I have heard so much about the Farm now that I am both nervous and excited, but more than anything I am ready to begin.
